Here's How To Navigate Thanksgiving/Christmas Decor

Here's How To Navigate Thanksgiving/Christmas Decor

After the tricks and treats of Halloween, it's straight on to Thanksgiving and Christmas. In the interest of saving time—and, let's be honest, because we just can't wait—decorating your home for both Thanksgiving and Christmas is the way to go! But to pay homage to both seasons, it's important to approach this with care. Think of it as an evolving process. Below, find our tips for navigating Thanksgiving/Christmas decor so your home feels seasonally appropriate and festive from early November through the New Year.

Be Mindful About Color Scheme

Orange screams autumn, while classic red and green are all Christmas. So how do you balance the two? Red and green in particular can drown out any neutrals, so save this color combo until after Thanksgiving. In the meantime, stick to golds, silvers, beiges, whites, creams and browns. These soft, warm tones make it easy to transition decor with just a few holiday accents come December. Look for pumpkins in whites and muted greens that nod to the season without the telltale orange.

We also love leaning on a classic white and black buffalo check. It's cheerful and cozy, and the plaid is ideal for both fall and winter.

Choose Decor Pieces With Care

Dual-purpose decor is the trick, so pull out the cozy throws and textured pillows. Lanterns and candles are ideal pieces this time of year, adding a cozy feel and a festive vibe. Adorn lanterns with sprigs of evergreen and some pinecones as a nod to the season. And bring out the mercury glass! Different shapes, sizes and textures add interest and the reflections will pick up the flickering candlelight for a cozy feel.

If you want to bring out the tree and garlands, keep the decorations simple and natural—think colorful leaves, berries, pinecones and branches.

Our holiday shop is full to bursting with home decor pieces that straddle the Thanskgiving/Christmas line. From candle holders to trays, pillows to throws, seasonal greenery to accent, this is a great time to shop!

Add A Seasonal Wreath

Hanging a wreath on the mantle or a door is a simple way to decorate for fall and winter. Look for one made with pieces that speak to the season, not to a particular holiday, like pinecones, greenery and winter fruit.

The Bottom Line

There's no right or wrong way to decorate, of course, but these tips go a long way to creating a cohesive, intentional vibe that celebrates the season and both of its holidays.
